Design Concept

Transforming vision into creative solutions

With the vision clarified, the next step is shaping it into a tangible design direction. Our Design Concept service translates the insights from Discovery into creative, practical solutions.
This stage aligns with RIBA Stages 1–2 (Preparation & Brief and Concept Design). We work across a wide range of scales, from interior fit-outs through to masterplanning schemes. Whatever the project, this is where we define its direction and give form to its ambitions.

Our Approach

We specialise in early-stage concept design: developing the what and the why before moving into the detailed how.

At this point the goal isn’t technical drawings or compliance detail. Instead, we explore ideas, test different options, and frame a clear concept that responds to the project’s needs and aspirations. This is where the creative vision starts to take shape and where the foundations for later design work are laid.

Our Process

1. Brief & Drivers

We refine the project brief, drawing from the priorities identified in Discovery. From this we establish design drivers, the guiding principles that anchor the concept.

2. Creative Explorations

We develop and test a range of design directions. Depending on the project, this might include spatial layouts for a fit-out, site strategies for a masterplan, or alternative configurations for a redevelopment.

3. Testing & Feedback

Concepts are shared and discussed with you and your stakeholders. This stage is collaborative, creating space for feedback and iteration so the chosen direction feels both ambitious and achievable.

4. Concept Definition

We consolidate the preferred approach into a clear package. This may include diagrams, outline layouts, mood imagery, and sketches that capture the spatial organisation, flow and character of the design.

The Outcome

At the end of the process, you’ll receive a Concept Design Package that includes:

The result is a clear and compelling vision that can be shared with leadership, stakeholders and funders. It gives momentum to your project and sets a strong direction for the detailed design that follows.

For organisations looking for longer-term support — whether that’s developing design guides, driving innovation, or aligning design decisions across multiple sites — our Design Partnership service provides ongoing strategic partnership beyond the concept stage.
